About Tectum
Tectum: the network behind SoftNote, digital banknotes for Bitcoin
Tectum is a blockchain project built around SoftNote, a system of digital banknotes that each represent ownership of a Bitcoin wallet. Its TET token, the Tectum Emission Token, is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum used to create SoftNotes, while the Tectum blockchain and its native coin TEC handle the network side.
Key Aspects of Tectum
1. SoftNote banknotes
A SoftNote is a digital banknote that represents ownership of a Bitcoin wallet, and the Bitcoin inside it can be checked on ordinary Bitcoin block explorers. The private key to that Bitcoin stays encrypted, so only the current owner can gain access to it. The key is revealed only when the note is burned (taken out of circulation) to release the Bitcoin.
2. Handover instead of a transaction
Passing a SoftNote to someone is a handover: the new holder receives a fresh PIN that only they know, and the previous holder's PIN stops working. A handover can also be completed over a phone line, and a SoftNote can be printed on paper or stored as an image, much like physical cash.
3. What TET is used for
TET is the utility token used to mint SoftNotes. Spending TET creates unfilled SoftNote bills, which are then filled with Bitcoin before use.
4. Token design
TET has a maximum total supply of 10,000,000 tokens on Ethereum.
5. Proof of Utility
Tectum's network uses Proof of Utility, a consensus approach that rewards nodes for the infrastructure they provide. A node's weight in network decisions grows with the bandwidth, storage and computing power it provides over time, and no single node can hold more than a third of the influence. Part of the revenue from SoftNotes, paid in TEC, goes to the nodes that run the network.
