About Spark
Spark: lending and savings in the Sky ecosystem
Spark is a decentralised finance (DeFi) protocol for lending, borrowing and savings that also allocates capital across DeFi and other markets. It is part of the Sky ecosystem, formerly MakerDAO. Its SPK token was introduced in June 2025 on Ethereum and BNB Chain.
Key Aspects of Spark
1. Products
SparkLend is a permissionless money market where users supply assets and borrow against collateral. Spark Savings lets users deposit supported assets into savings vaults to earn a savings rate. The Spark Liquidity Layer is a non-custodial capital allocator that puts Spark's capital to work across markets.
2. What SPK Is Used For
SPK is Spark's governance token, used for signalling and sentiment checks through Snapshot votes. Holders can also stake SPK and earn Spark Points.
3. Governance
Proposals are posted in Spark's section of the Sky forum and reviewed by the Spark Risk Council, which can reject proposals that pose substantial risks, before going to a three-day Snapshot vote. A proposal passes with more than half of the votes cast, not counting abstentions. Where code changes are needed, they are carried out through an on-chain update called a Spark Spell.
4. Token Design
10 billion SPK were minted at genesis, and Sky can mint more only under extreme circumstances. 65% goes to users through Sky's farming program over ten years, with the yearly amount falling over time; 23% went to the ecosystem and 12% to the team, whose tokens unlock after a one-year cliff and then vest over three years.
5. Who It Is For
Spark serves people who want to earn interest on their assets or borrow against crypto collateral, and SPK holders who want a say in how the protocol is run.
