Rats (ticker rats) is a BRC-20 token, a kind of token created directly on the Bitcoin blockchain through Ordinals inscriptions. Like other BRC-20 tokens, it is held and moved with Bitcoin wallets that support Ordinals.
Key Aspects of Rats
1. What BRC-20 is
BRC-20 is a token standard for Bitcoin. Instead of a smart contract, each action, such as deploying the token, minting new units or transferring them, is written as a small piece of text called an inscription and recorded in a Bitcoin transaction. Balances are not stored in one place: indexers, programs that read these inscriptions, add up all of this activity to work out who holds which balance.
2. How transfers work
To send BRC-20 tokens, the owner first inscribes a transfer inscription to their own Ordinals-compatible wallet and then sends that inscription to the recipient. The balance moves when the inscription is sent. Each step is a normal Bitcoin transaction.
3. Token design
Under the BRC-20 standard, a token begins with a deploy inscription that sets its ticker and maximum supply. Exchange records list the total supply of Rats as 1 trillion tokens.
