About Puffer
Puffer: liquid restaking and infrastructure for Ethereum
Puffer is an Ethereum infrastructure project built by Puffer Finance, whose main product is a native liquid restaking protocol integrated with EigenLayer. Restaking reuses staked ETH to help secure other services in exchange for extra rewards. PUFFER is the project's governance token, an ERC-20 token on Ethereum.
Key Aspects of Puffer
1. Liquid Restaking and pufETH
Stakers can deposit any amount of ETH and receive pufETH, a liquid token they can hold or use in other DeFi apps. pufETH grows in value from both Ethereum staking rewards and restaking rewards, so stakers do not need to manage complex strategies themselves.
2. Node Operators
Node operators can run a full 32 ETH Ethereum validator by locking 2 ETH as collateral plus Validator Tickets, and they keep their validator's staking rewards until their tickets run out. The protocol supports anti-slashing hardware to help operators avoid penalties, and it caps its own share of Ethereum's validators to protect the network.
3. UniFi, Puffer Preconf and Institutional Staking
UniFi is a based rollup, a layer 2 network whose transactions are ordered by Ethereum's own validators, with built-in yield and fast withdrawals. Puffer Preconf provides preconfirmations for layer 2 rollups, early guarantees that a transaction will be included. Puffer also offers staking infrastructure for institutions.
4. What the PUFFER Token Is Used For
PUFFER is the governance token of the Puffer protocol and the UniFi ecosystem. Holders vote on settings such as fees, limits and bond requirements, select guardians and restaking operators, and choose which restaking services are supported. Locking PUFFER for 30 days up to 2 years gives vlPUFFER, a non-transferable voting token, with longer locks giving more voting power.
5. Token Design
PUFFER has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. The largest share, 40%, is set aside for the ecosystem and community. Investors received 26% and the core team and advisors 20%, each vesting over three years with a one-year cliff, and 1% supports Ethereum core development through the Protocol Guild.
