About Pangolin
Pangolin: a community exchange that started on Avalanche
Pangolin is a decentralised exchange (DEX), an app where people swap tokens directly from their own wallets without a company holding their funds. It launched on Avalanche in 2021 and later expanded to other networks. Its documentation credits Ava Labs, the company behind Avalanche, with its initial development. PNG is Pangolin's governance token on Avalanche.

1. How it works
Pangolin uses liquidity pools: users deposit pairs of tokens into a pool, and traders swap against it, paying a small fee that rewards those providers. Pangolin V3 adds concentrated liquidity, where providers choose the price range they want to supply, and dynamic fees that adjust to market conditions.
2. What the PNG token is used for
PNG holders vote on governance proposals and protocol changes. PNG can also be supplied to liquidity pools or staked on its own, and the PNG staking pool receives a share of swap fees.
3. Token design
PNG has a maximum supply of 230 million, released over 48 months mostly as rewards for liquidity providers. That maximum has been reached, so no new PNG is minted. The original design of 538 million tokens over 28 years was replaced by this shorter schedule.
4. Who it is for
Pangolin suits traders on Avalanche and the other networks it serves, and users who want to earn fees by providing liquidity.
Pangolin's Milestones
Pangolin launched on Avalanche in February 2021, when PNG rewards for liquidity providers began. It later moved to a 48-month PNG schedule with a 230 million cap, whose emissions ended in January 2025, and expanded to Hedera, Flare and Songbird.
