About Oraichain
Oraichain: an AI-focused layer 1 blockchain and oracle
Oraichain is a layer 1 blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK, a toolkit for building independent blockchains that can connect to one another. It began as an AI-powered oracle, a service that brings outside information and AI results to smart contracts, and grew into an AI layer 1 with a wider ecosystem of apps. Its ORAI token was created in 2020, and its mainnet launched in February 2021.
Key Aspects of Oraichain
1. The AI oracle
Smart contracts cannot run AI models or reach the internet on their own. Oraichain lets them call outside AI services. Each request can include test cases, and an AI provider is only paid if its answers pass a set number of them; validators manage these test cases to keep quality high.
2. What the ORAI token is used for
ORAI is required to run AI requests on the network, is staked by validators who create blocks and fulfil data requests, and is used by holders to vote on protocol upgrades and parameter changes.
3. Token design
The documentation sets a maximum supply of 19,779,272 ORAI. The supply was cut sharply by burns (tokens permanently destroyed): 73% of the initial supply in December 2020, followed by two more burns from team, advisor and foundation tokens in 2021.
4. Three forms of ORAI
ORAI exists as the native coin of the Oraichain mainnet, as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and as a BEP-20 token on BNB Chain.
5. Technology and tools
Oraichain runs CosmWasm smart contracts and supports IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication, the standard for moving tokens between Cosmos chains). Its tools include a verifiable random number service (VRF), the OWallet wallet and the OraiDEX exchange.
Oraichain's Milestones
The ERC-20 version of ORAI was created on Ethereum in September 2020. In December 2020, 73% of the initial supply was burned. The Oraichain mainnet launched on 23 February 2021. In 2021 two further burns came from team, advisor and foundation tokens, in March and June. In October 2025 Oraichain announced a realignment of its ecosystem: its DeFi tokens were to be consolidated into a single DeFi token, LFG, while ORAI remained the token for AI applications.
