About Initia
Initia: a network of connected app-specific rollups
Initia is a layer 1 blockchain designed as a hub for many app-specific rollups, separate chains each built for one app that settle back to a main chain. Its Interwoven Stack gives these rollups shared tools for bridging, data and price feeds, so they work together. Initia is built by Initia Labs, the Initia Foundation supports the ecosystem, and the mainnet and INIT token launched in April 2025.
Key Aspects of Initia
1. How it works
Rollups on Initia use the OPinit framework, an optimistic rollup design in which transactions are treated as valid unless someone proves otherwise within a challenge period. The Initia layer 1 coordinates security, liquidity and communication between these rollups.
2. Enshrined Liquidity
On Initia, approved liquidity positions on InitiaDEX that pair INIT with other assets can be staked to secure the chain alongside plain INIT. Providers can earn both staking rewards and trading fees from one position instead of choosing between them.
3. The VIP programme
VIP (Vested Interest Program) rewards app users, builders and layer 1 stakeholders in INIT. Rewards are paid in escrowed form and vest as apps keep meeting agreed performance targets, to favour long-term use.
4. What the INIT token is used for
INIT is staked, directly or through Enshrined Liquidity, to secure the network. Holders vote in governance, including VIP gauge votes that steer rewards between apps.
5. Token design
INIT has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens. A quarter is set aside for staking and Enshrined Liquidity rewards and another quarter for VIP rewards, released gradually; the rest went to protocol developers, investors, the foundation and community distributions. A governance proposal shortened the emission schedule slightly so that total emissions stay within the 250 million INIT reward allocation.
