Forta: onchain security and risk management for Web3
Forta is a security and risk-management platform for blockchains and digital assets. It began as a decentralized network of scan nodes that watched blockchain activity for threats in real time, and it describes itself as an onchain risk management platform for asset issuers, asset managers and chains. Its token, FORT, is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and the project is supported by the Forta Foundation.
Key Aspects of Forta
1. A detection network
Forta's network is made of scan nodes, computers run by independent operators, that run detection bots: small programs that watch transactions for signs of attacks, scams or unusual activity and raise alerts. FORT is staked on nodes and bots as a guarantee that this work is done correctly.
2. Forta Firewall
Forta Firewall screens transactions at the sequencer, the part of a layer 2 network that puts transactions in order before they are recorded. This lets a chain stop unwanted activity, such as known scams, before it executes.
3. Forta Risk
Forta Risk maps every dependency behind a digital asset, including indirect ones, measures them in US dollars and monitors them block by block. It is aimed at asset issuers, asset managers, curators and protocols.
4. What FORT is used for
FORT has three core uses: staking on nodes and detection bots, paying fees, and governance, in which holders vote on how the network develops. FORT lives on Ethereum, with a bridged version on Polygon.
5. Token design
FORT has a total supply of 1 billion tokens.
Forta's Milestones
In June 2022, after more than a thousand scan nodes had run detection bots, the Forta community voted that the network was operating on a decentralized basis and was ready for its permissionless launch, the step that removed transfer restrictions from the FORT token.
