About CHEQD Network
cheqd: a blockchain for digital identity and trusted data
cheqd, listed on exchanges as CHEQD Network, is a public blockchain for decentralised identity. It lets organisations issue and check digital credentials, such as proof of age or a qualification, and supports privacy-preserving payments for credentials and trusted data. The network is built with the Cosmos SDK, a toolkit for creating independent blockchains, and its mainnet launched in 2021. CHEQ is its native token.
Key Aspects of cheqd
1. How it works
cheqd stores decentralised identifiers (DIDs, IDs that a person or company controls themselves) and related records on its blockchain, so anyone can check that a credential is genuine without contacting the issuer. It also supports trust registries, which record who is allowed to issue which credentials.
2. What the CHEQ token is used for
CHEQ pays for transactions on the network, is staked to secure it, and is used to vote in governance. Fee abstraction lets users pay fees with other supported tokens.
3. Token design
Part of the fees for identity transactions, such as creating or updating a DID, is burned (permanently removed), and the prices of those transactions are set by governance. New CHEQ is issued to stakers at a rate that governance also decides.
4. Security and consensus
cheqd uses proof of stake: validators lock up CHEQ to produce blocks and agree on the network's state. Upgrades are approved through on-chain governance proposals.
5. Who it is for
cheqd is aimed at companies that issue or check credentials, at developers building identity and trusted-data apps, and at people who want control over their own digital identity.
cheqd's Milestones
cheqd's testnet launched in July 2021, and its mainnet went live in November 2021. In September 2024, CHEQ and DOCK holders approved merging the DOCK token, from the credentials company Dock, into CHEQ. In 2025, cheqd's governance lowered the network's inflation rate to about 1.5 percent a year.
