About Avail
Avail: a data availability network and cross-chain toolkit
Avail is a blockchain network that publishes and stores transaction data for other blockchains, especially rollups (networks that process transactions separately and post the results to a base chain), so anyone can check that the data really exists. On top of this base layer, Avail builds Nexus, a system that helps apps reach users and funds across many chains at once. Avail began inside Polygon and became an independent project, supported by the Avail Foundation; its mainnet and the AVAIL token went live in July 2024.
Key Aspects of Avail
1. How Avail DA works
Avail DA is the data availability layer. Rollups send their data to Avail under their own app ID, which marks out their data. Light clients, small programs that do not download every block, can still check the data by sampling random pieces of it, which keeps verification cheap.
2. Nexus
Nexus is a cross-chain execution layer. A user states what they want, and Nexus finds the route and the funds across several chains, so a single transaction can draw on money held on different networks. Developers add it to their apps through an SDK (a developer toolkit) and APIs.
3. What the AVAIL token is used for
AVAIL pays for use of the network and is staked by validators and other holders to secure it, earning staking rewards. Avail says that stablecoins or other tokens paid for its services are converted to AVAIL or used to buy it back. Community and research funds are distributed through the Avail Foundation.
4. Token design
The total supply is 10 billion AVAIL. Allocations go to ecosystem development, community and research, core contributors, investors, and an airdrop and public allocation, with multi-year vesting for several groups.
5. Who it is for
Avail is aimed mainly at developers building rollups and multi-chain apps. Ordinary users meet it through bridges and apps built on Nexus, often without seeing Avail directly.
Avail's Milestones
July 2024: Avail DA launched on mainnet, together with the AVAIL token. November 2025: Avail launched Nexus on mainnet.
