Alephium's move in context
Lagging the market today
−0.77% in 24 hours against +0.80% for the market as a whole, a gap of 1.6 points. Small gaps like this are common, so they don't point to anything specific.
We compare the last 24 hours with this coin's typical day, from 11 recent days (up to four weeks). We only count exchanges we read on both days, so an exchange we've just added doesn't look like extra trading. This describes trading, not where the price goes next.
$106.65K traded in the last 24 hours on the exchanges we read, close to its usual day.
The price of each exchange's last trade, read in the past few minutes, in US dollars or dollar stablecoins; markets with little trading are left out. Gaps under 1% are everyday: fees and the gap between buying and selling prices take up most of them.
Alephium's last prices on 3 exchanges we read are within 0.19% of each other, so the price above isn't one exchange's quirk.
Part of a slide
−10.3% over 7 days and −41.2% over 30 days: the recent move continues the monthly direction.

About Alephium
Alephium: a sharded proof-of-work blockchain with smart contracts
Alephium is a layer 1 blockchain, a base network that runs on its own rather than on top of another chain. It combines proof-of-work mining, the security model Bitcoin uses, with smart contracts, programs that run on the blockchain, so developers can build decentralized applications on it. Alephium is developed as open-source software by the Alephium team, and its mainnet launched in November 2021. Its native coin is ALPH.
Key Aspects of Alephium
1. BlockFlow sharding
Alephium splits its network into several groups, called shards, that process transactions in parallel. Its BlockFlow design links the shards together, so users and applications still see one single chain. Since the Danube upgrade, groupless addresses mean users don't need to choose a shard to use an app.
2. Proof-of-Less-Work
Miners secure Alephium with Proof-of-Less-Work (PoLW), a variant of proof of work. The project designed it to keep the security and simplicity of mining while using much less energy than classic proof of work.
3. Smart contracts on a stateful UTXO model
Bitcoin tracks coins as UTXOs, unspent outputs of earlier payments. Alephium extends this model with contract state, which the project describes as combining Ethereum's flexibility with Bitcoin's security. Developers write contracts in Ralph, Alephium's own programming language, and they run on Alphred, its purpose-built virtual machine.
4. What ALPH is used for
ALPH pays the fees for transactions and smart contract calls on the network, and miners receive newly issued ALPH as block rewards for securing it.
5. Token design
The Danube upgrade removed ALPH's fixed supply cap and introduced a tail emission, a small ongoing issuance that keeps rewarding miners over the long term. The upgrade kept the existing emission schedule for the first 80 years.
Alephium's Milestones
November 2021: Alephium's mainnet launched. July 2025: the Danube upgrade activated, halving the block time from 16 to 8 seconds and adding groupless addresses, passkey wallets (sign-in with Face ID, Touch ID or a security key) and chained contract calls.
