About Access Protocol
Access Protocol: support creators by staking tokens instead of paying
Access Protocol is a content subscription system on the Solana blockchain. Instead of paying a monthly fee, supporters stake ACS tokens with a creator to unlock that creator's content, and both the supporter and the creator receive token rewards. It is built by Access Labs, which began publishing the protocol's code in 2021.
Key Aspects of Access Protocol
1. Staking instead of paying
Each creator has a stake pool, a smart contract (a program that runs on the blockchain) that holds the tokens fans lock up. Staking ACS in a creator's pool gives the supporter access to that creator's content.
2. What the ACS token is used for
ACS is the currency of the whole system. It is staked to subscribe to creators, and it is paid out as rewards both to the stakers and to the creators whose pools they support.
3. Token design
ACS has no fixed maximum supply. New tokens are created on a schedule set in the protocol's central settings and are paid out as rewards to stakers and to creators. A public function that anyone can call, known as the crank, updates each pool's reward records.
4. Open code on Solana
The protocol runs as a Solana program and its source code is published under the GPL-3.0 open-source licence. Anyone can read how staking, rewards and bonds work. Bonds are tokens that unlock gradually over time and can be staked while they are still locked.
5. Who it is for
Access Protocol is aimed at creators such as writers, artists and media outlets who want support directly from their audience, and at fans who prefer to support them by staking tokens rather than paying a fee.
Access Protocol's Milestones
Access Labs began publishing the protocol's code on GitHub in November 2021. In August 2026 the project introduced the Access Agent, an AI assistant for its users, and in September 2026 it opened the Access cNFT Marketplace, a marketplace for compressed NFTs (a low-cost NFT format on Solana).
